Before we talk about the future lets talk about the past. The idea for this blog started a few years back in 2008. This was when I decided that my time on this earth would be spent following my creative abilities. I made it my personal mission to only study interests that would evolve my creative vision. I allowed my life to be pulled down a path that would is subconsciously dictated by my inner creative self.
Art means something more for me then just a pretty picture. It allows me to tell my stories, it’s a outlet for my frustrations, my passions and my fears. A place where I alone control the outcome. An object of endless desire. To push beyond what is seen by others. To take what is not always easily read, and mark it onto the outside world.
I found photography eight years ago, when I was heavily into BMX. I would ride around town with my friends snapping photos and shooting videos, mostly for our falls and mischief but also because I enjoyed doing it. Our days were spent skipping class, drinking light beers (stolen from our parents) and riding. Those years led to a few broken bones and countless bruises but they opened my eyes to a world that was possible. To have a vision for something and to pursue it long enough to see the result. The reward was the best high one could ask for.
I purchased my first digital camera, a small Panasonic point-and-shoot(DMC LC33) while attending Video Post Productions studies at Trebas Institute in Toronto. Photography at that time was never something I planed to do as a career, but as the years passed I continued to take photos and noticed a style starting to emerge. These photo collections began to look more and more like the visions that I had seen in my head. The stored ideas, thoughts and dreams from restless nights were beginning to make their way onto paper.
After graduating I worked freelance gigs trying to find a niche market to tap into. In 2006, the music scene in my home town was starting to get recognized. A few friends had mentioned local bands and a curiosity to see what a younger generation was producing eventually led to me documenting this scene. Instantly I was hooked. The intensity and aggression in this hard-core scene was easy for me to relate to. I felt I had found something that not only could be documented but I could also give a commentary to. The photos became a visual review for those who could not make it to the shows.
Juggling these gigs with my full time job was starting to clash. I decided to take a risk and leave my job to focus on this new creative avenue. I guess I should have payed more attention to the news because I decided to leave in one of the worst economic periods possible. But when one door closes, another is bound to open.
2009,was the year. The photography all started to come together. A plan was conceived and actions were took. All the bad jobs and wrong decisions from the past had taught me what not to do. I had a sense of direction, an objective, and a goal. I could see the light.
This blog is for ideas and information about photography, digital cinema, illustration, design and architecture. They are to be shared and questioned, dissected and remixed. This is a place where the light in myself will allow you, the reader, to talk, share and be inspired for your own projects.
Today is the present.
Welcome to The Light Makes them Talk.
